Riverside County Santa Ana River Watershed Stormwater Resource Plan Development

Riverside County Santa Ana River Watershed Stormwater Resource Plan Development

The Riverside County Flood Control and Water Conservation District prepared a Stormwater Resource Plan for Riverside County and held two stakeholder meetings in January and February 2022 where the District discussed the need for the plan and how the plan will help meet District water quality, water conservation, and flood control goals.

A Stormwater Resource Plan is required by California law (SB 985-2014) to receive state funding for multi-benefit, watershed-based stormwater capture facilities that protect water quality and improve water supply reliability.

The goal is to create an integrated regional watershed-based plan which addresses challenges and opportunities for managing stormwater and dry weather runoff and identifies and prioritizes multi-benefit capture projects. General project examples include green infrastructure, rainwater and stormwater capture, and stormwater treatment facilities.

The District established a call for projects for inclusion in the Stormwater Resource Plan after the February 2022 stakeholder meeting. The project submittal form can be accessed through the Riverside County Watershed Protection website. In April 2022, the District released the scoring and project summary results for 16 different projects, which were submitted during the District’s Call for Projects. The Scoring Results and Project Summaries can be accessed below.

CICWQ is one of several different public and private stakeholders who provide feedback and input to the District as it develops the plan elements during 2022.
