Earlier this month at the Tri-State Public Works Seminar, Russ Foster from J.F. Shea Co., Inc. and Robert Patterson from Baldwin & Sons, along with Mark Grey from CICWQ presented a look at the first year of complying with the California Construction General permit for stormwater. The presentation emphasized violation and enforcement trends, key updated permit requirements impacting job site compliance costs, and construction industry recommendations for permit adaptation and guidance from the state.

Revised California Construction General Permit for Stormwater – First Year Implementation Issues Presentation – 39th Annual Tri-State Seminar
The revised (September 2022) California stormwater Construction General Permit (CGP) went into full effect back on September 1, 2023. Applicable to almost all construction projects greater than one acre is size, the revised permit contains several new and different or modified requirements which construction sites must comply with, or face violations and penalties.
In early August 2024 at the 39th Annual Tri-State Seminar in Las Vegas, Nevada, CICWQ--represented by Mark Grey, Robert Patterson and Russ Foster—presented an hour-long review of the newly revised CGP for stormwater and its first year of full implementation. The comprehensive 3-part presentation includes updates on long-term state of California construction site violation and enforcement data, a review of new compliance requirements impacting job site compliance costs, and the very latest in construction industry advocacy concerning the newly revised permit and how it is being interpreted and implemented.

Learn From Experts’ Best Practices and Lessons Learned From Years of Implementing the CGP
This intensive workshop spans two half-days (August 28-29, 2024) and offers thorough training to help construction project owners and operators, consultants, engineers, and legal professionals fully understand the New California Stormwater Construction General Permit (CGP). The course fee includes materials, instruction by CASQA-certified Trainers of Record (ToRs), lunch, refreshments, and a Certificate of Completion.
CASQA Conference in October – Sacramento – Construction General Permit for Stormwater Information and Education Sessions
The California Stormwater Quality Association will host its 2024 annual conference in Sacramento from October 21 to 23. This year, there are multiple sessions on the revised 2022 Construction General Permit for stormwater, including a ½ day technical workshop focusing on stormwater related construction challenges: Innovative BMPs and controls; Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) implementation; passive treatment; challenges and solutions to site management; implementing cost controls; resolving monitoring and sampling issues; navigating the different challenges of linear underground and overhead projects; and other implementation experiences.
