Water Quality and Supply Issues Monthly Update-DECEMBER 2023

Happy Holidays from CICWQ!

On behalf of our Board of Directors and Staff Members, we extend our warmest wishes to each and every one of you.

This holiday season serves as a reminder of the strength of unity. As we celebrate this special time of year, let us also reflect on the accomplishments and challenges we have faced together. Your support has been instrumental in shaping CICWQ into the thriving community it is today. Each year, our collective efforts continue to create a lasting impact. We have achieved milestones, fostered collaboration, and worked towards ensuring the interest of the construction industry on water quality and water supply reliability issues.

May the spirit of the holidays fill your hearts with joy, laughter, and cherished moments with family and friends. Here's to a new year filled with even greater achievements, collaboration, and success in our shared mission.

WATER ISSUES WORTH YOUR TIME IN DECEMBER

December finds us reflecting on our work this past year in California, advocating for the construction industry on water quality and water supply reliability issues, and looking ahead to what we face in 2024.

In January 2024, look for our CICWQ Year-in-Review for 2023, where we highlight advocacy issues we worked on and some of the major accomplishments and goals we achieved. Areas we will be covering include:

Industry reaction to the renewal of the Construction General Permit for Stormwater, which became effective for new projects on September 1, 2023

Key advances across the state in developing water quality credit trading programs for new and redevelopment project water quality compliance

Major effects of and response by the State of California to a record-breaking water year, which created a surplus of water supplies but revealed needed infrastructure improvements in flood control and conservation storage capacity

We will conclude this month by drawing your attention to the recent State Water Project water supply allocation from the California Department of Water Resources. It’s a conservative outlook but not unprecedented, given how important it is to prepare for the return of drier and more normal conditions in California.

1) 2024 Water Supply Allocation from the Department of Water Resources

Despite the record-breaking rainfall and snowpack across the state, California water resource managers recently made their supply allocations for 2024.
